Fitted wardrobes especially when custom-built for your room are the best solution for maximising your storage space. As they generally go from floor to ceiling, there is much more capacity than the equivalent shop bought mass-produced wardrobes that generally leave a gap to the ceiling. This type of unit does not normally provide enough vertical storage capacity to accommodate double hanging (2 hanging rails, one above the other) which is a good way to increase your available hanging space. This is one of the reasons why a custom-built fitted wardrobe will provide up to 40% more storage space than a mass-produced unit.

A made to measure fitted wardrobe will also be specifically custom built to fit the width of the room unless it is not truly made to measure. This means that the door widths can be any dimension, allowing the remaining infill panels that meet the walls to be the minimum size possible, allowing the available storage space to be maximised.

A fitted wardrobe installation will look more tidy and uncluttered than a freestanding mass-produced wardrobe as it will entirely fill the space from floor to ceiling and wall to wall without gaps, making it much more streamlined, elegant, and functional.

Fitted wardrobes are often the only practical solution when you have a bedroom with awkward spaces such as angled ceilings. It is usually not possible in these situations to put a freestanding mass-produced wardrobe in the space and the use of made to measure angled doors and carcasses to fit angled ceilings will fit perfectly, look beautiful, and use every inch of the space available.

Sometimes bedrooms can be awkwardly shaped or have awkward sized areas which are difficult to fit standard sized freestanding units into. Examples are staircase boxings at floor level, chimney breasts, alcoves or L – shaped rooms. With bespoke fitted wardrobes, the ability to build made to measure custom units means it is possible to fit into, around or over the obstacles in the room to fit its shape.

With small bedrooms, in particular, the ability to customise made to measure units comes into its own when you want to fit a lot into a small area and provide a practical solution. It is often possible to build custom beds with drawers that use the under bed space efficiently whilst getting a decent amount of wardrobe space at the same time and often also fitting in a bedside unit or a desk for your child to do their homework if it is a child’s room. The designer should be able to provide a solution that makes the best use of the available space. To book an appointment, please click here.

Fitted wardrobes generally come in a variety of plain gloss or matt colours and wood grained finishes and the doors are available in different styles with a selection of handle choices which can be specified to suit your requirements so that the installation will complement the décor in your bedroom.

Another advantage of a fitted wardrobe that is sometimes not thought of is that where the installation is along a party wall in a semi-detached or terraced home, the wardrobe can often offer additional sound insulation.

When creating your dream bedroom, you want to create a perfect place to escape – a safe, uncluttered environment for you to sleep in or a retreat where you can unwind and be yourself. It needs to have an air of calm – an inviting, tidy space where you can relax in comfort after your day’s labours. When designing your bedroom layout,

consider the where the bed will be positioned – there is often more than one position that will work in the room, but what you consider to be the optimum position will be determined by a number of factors such as the position of existing sockets in the room if you don’t intend to re-position sockets, the length and width of the bed and how much of a walkway is left at the end or side of the bed and which layout makes both sides of the bed the most easily accessible from walking in the room.

Wall cupboards above the bed are often a requirement for those who want to maximise their storage potential although some may consider these to be old-fashioned. When visiting customers, I find that many clients request storage above the bed, but there are a few that would prefer not to have them. These extra cupboards can be useful for storing items you don’t need to access too often such as your spare duvets and pillows reserved for when the family visit. These are another feature of fitted wardrobes that are usually not available if you opt for a freestanding shop-bought unit.
